Family Day at Jack Point

Jack Point, Nanaimo, BC

Sometimes it’s a challenge to get things done in a timely manner. Like this blog! While spending time away and focusing on other priorities, I found myself missing the cathartic process of writing for Lost in Paradise. Life does have a way of getting in the way of things.

The important thing in all of this is that I’m remaining true to my commitment to spend quality time with my family. We’ve been getting out and around, trying out new places and having different experiences. Our most recent was a trip to a local park we have never been to before. Only 20 or so minutes from our home, we pass by every time we head out to the Duke Point Ferry Terminal. The ferry terminal sits on a slim finger of land that separates the Nanaimo River Estuary and Gabriola Island. On the other side of the finger is Jack Point.

If you’re looking for an easy family hike within a stone’s throw of Nanaimo, Jack Point and Biggs Park will fit the bill nicely. A mostly level coastal stroll that meanders along the shoreline of the Nanaimo River Estuary for about 2.5 kilometres, Jack Point is perfect for nearly everyone in your family. There are a couple of spots where you’ll need to navigate stairs, but otherwise it’s a walk in the park. Literally!

We spent a beautiful, sunny Family Day exploring this pretty spot. We shared the hike with many other families, couples, and dogs, but it never felt crowded. And I’m sharing this family hike with you. I hope you enjoy the video.

Have you been to Jack Point? Do you have a favorite local park, trail or walk that you like to do with the family? Take a moment and share it with us in the comments below.
